Chronic Alcohol Abuse

Chronic Alcohol Abuse is simply defined as a compulsive need for an intoxicating liquid. These liquids include beer, wine, and other hard liquors. Alcohol abuse in troubled teens and troubled young adults can be a serious problem to treat, as alcohol is easily available and these young people are often unaware that they have a problem. Unfortunately, many teens and young adult alcohol abusers never seek treatment, and many families are unaware when a family member is struggling with alcohol abuse.

Common signs and symptoms of alcohol abuse include; repeatedly neglecting your responsibilities at home, work, or school because of your drinking, using alcohol in situations where it’s physically dangerous, experiencing repeated legal problems on account of your drinking, continuing to drink even though your alcohol use is causing problems in your relationships, and/or drinking as a way to relax or de-stress.

Treatment Options for Alcohol Use and Abuse

There are many different types of alcoholics, so it makes sense that there are different treatment options designed for particular individuals at different stages of the disease. Multiple types of alcohol addiction treatment can be used to give a troubled teen or troubled young adult alcoholic the tools that he or she needs to confront the condition. Regardless of the type of alcohol addiction treatment that is chosen, some type of ongoing therapy will be very beneficial, as alcoholism is a life-long disease.
