The Secret is That There

If you've been blaming yourself for all of the problems your son or daughter has been experiencing and feeling like an inadequate parent, it is important that you realize that there is no such thing as a perfect teenager. Regardless of how well you bring up your children, issues will eventually arise. You must work to keep these issues in perspective and realize that making mistakes and learning from them is a major part of the process of growing up. While these experiences can be negative, by learning from their mistakes your child will grow as a person. As counter-intuitive as it may be, this means that parents should ideally give their children some room to make mistakes. While you will always be there to help, this will allow your teen to begin the process of maturation while developing a healthy level of self-reliance. Ultimately, one of the most important functions of being a parent is just offering support as life experience molds your teen into an adult.

Accepting Your Teenager For Who They Are

For many parents, the temptation to blame themselves for their children's actions can be overwhelming. This can make many parents feel like they must do anything they can to help their teen overcome the issues they blame themselves for. By realizing that there is no such thing as the perfect child, parents become free to more objectively analzye the problems that are being experienced. This in turn can make it much easier to provide the right kinds of support and assistance. This type of understanding can never occur while parents are hung up on the idea that the right parenting will produce the perfect adolescent. By opening up to this new way of thinking about helping your son or daughter through the process of growing up, you will be able to offer much more meaningful and effective help and support. Many parents are shocked to see the positive character traits their progeny are able to develop when they learn from their mistakes.
