Too many troubled boys find negative role models in professional athletes. It is so common for athletes to make headlines thanks to their negative behavior, often ending in legal consequences. The dangers of these behaviors are that the youth of today see the glamour and money that is a part of the lives of pro athletes rather than the consequences of their behavior. Troubled boys are in need of positive role models rather than prima donna athletes that do not take their influence on the youth of today seriously. Athletes like Chad Ochocinco or Aaron Hernandez have dominated the news lately with headlines relating to murder and domestic violence. Although they may be extreme examples, troubled boys are exposed to these kinds of stories daily, which make professional athletes horrible role models.

Finding Positive Role Models is Important for Troubled Boys

Troubled boys look up to professional athletes for a variety of reasons, which makes the negative behavior they so often represent so reprehensible. These individuals are meant to provide a positive influence for the youth of today. Troubled boys need positive role models that can show them through example how to act and work towards success. Young men that are transitioning from their teen years to early adulthood are very headstrong. These troubled boys will see their behavior as them exorcising their freedom, despite the intervention attempts of parents, it's the role models young men look up to that will have the most impact. It is unfortunate that troubled boys are exposed on what seems like a weekly basis to DUI, domestic violence, and assault charges that seem to be following professional athletes around.

Parents Can Help Their Son Find a Positive Role Model

It is up to parents of to take a stand; professional athletes need to be held accountable for their actions. Yes they are human and make mistakes, yet as prominent figures the lives of all fans, they need to act in a manner that promotes positive choices rather than negative action.
