What is the Adolescents' Attitude Toward the Use of E-Cigarettes?
Does an attitude toward e-cigarettes matter when considering teens and adolescents and their use of electronic cigarette devices? One recent study suggests it does. What is the attitude of adolescents towards e-cigarettes and why is their attitude important?

The important thing to understand is the potentially harmful impact on teenagers and young adults when they hold a positive attitude toward the use of e-cigarettes. Findings of the study reveal the importance of educating the public about harmful effects of e-cigarettes, especially teens. E-cigarette users need to know the risks and dangers associated with its use.
Attitude Means Everything Regarding Use or Abuse of e-Cigs
It is our opinion that 'attitude' means everything. The attitude we have toward something will influence our behavior. Unfortunately, the positive attitude of adolescent's regarding e-cigarettes means that e-cigs are a considered a safer option for ingesting tobacco (nicotine). It's not safer, and as a matter of fact can be considered more harmful when compared to smoking traditional cigarettes.
What is an E-Cigarette?
E-cigarettes or electronic cigarettes are a tobacco product that contains nicotine. E-cigs are a popular new way to ingest/inhale nicotine, and adolescents seem to love them. However, whether a smoker uses traditional cigarettes or an electronic device to inhale nicotine, the continual use of tobacco will cause the same serious health ailments, including cancer and heart disease. In fact, some e-cigarette devices provide greater amounts of nicotine and other harmful chemicals when compared to traditional cigarettes.
Electronic cigarettes come in the form of e-pens, e-pipes, e-hookah and any other electronic devices marketed as an "electronic nicotine delivery system." E-cigarettes create the nicotine vapor through a battery-operated heating element. The e-cig heats a liquid form of nicotine aerosol that is inhaled by the smoker. The point is that the liquid form of nicotine also contains harmful chemicals, including carcinogens and other lung irritants.
Nicotine is Highly Addictive and Harmful Regardless of the Method of Use
Moreover, nicotine is an addictive substance regardless of which device used to inhale. Smokers often learn how to use e-cigarettes in a way that increases their exposure to nicotine, and thus e-cigarettes lead to a greater risk for nicotine addiction.
"It has been proven that nicotine has a negative impact on a teenager's brain development."
Heavy use of nicotine during adolescence and young adulthood has shown to cause cognitive and behavioral impairments, including negative affect on memory and attention.
The goal of the recent study was to examine adolescents' attitudes regarding e-cigarette ingredients, safety, addictive properties, social norms, accessibility, price, and regulation; and determine whether attitudes differ by past cigarette/e-cigarette use.
Recent Study Show Teen's Attitudes Affect Use of e-Cigarettes
The study found that adolescents smoking e-cig or traditional cigarettes had significantly more favorable e-cigarette attitudes than non-users. This study also found that teens are aware of some of the risks of e-cigarettes, although they have too many misguided conceptions that lead to a more positive attitude towards e-cigarettes than cigarettes - which is a false conclusion.
