5 Men Remove Tires While Facing Death

This video is incredible. 5 men in Saudi Arabia climb out of a vehicle that is being driven on only it’s two right side wheels. They all work to remove the other two (leaving us to wonder what would happen should they drop pieces and are unable to put them back on) and raise their hands in victory of their daring accomplishment. As I watched this happen and my boys cheered them on, I wondered: What would make human beings literally sit so close to the edge of death?

Sigmund Feud had the conviction that every single one of us has a death drive—the innate urge to rush towards our end in order to return to the inorganic. In this we might go back to our state of pre-life perfection.

Conversely, researchers insist that doing dangerous stunts and other adrenalin-pumping activities are what makes some humans feel alive. They use these experiences to remind themselves that they exist, and exist well. Nothing makes them feel more alive than so closely dancing with death.

As for myself, roller coasters are the closest I will get to fulfilling my death drive, and I am at peace with that. I will leave the skydiving and the crazy car driving to the rest of you.
