I Thought My Son Would Never Move Out

Posted on , in Section Testimonials

Having an adult child who won't move out isn't something any parent really expects to have to deal with, but it is becoming an increasingly common problem. When this situation occurred in my family, I didn't know where to turn for help. The problems all started when my son dropped out of community college. Up until that point, my wife and I were happy to let him live at home while he pursued his education. Unfortunately, after he dropped out of school he seemed to lose all of his ambition. He got a part time job at a local restaurant and seemed content to spend all of his free time playing video games and sleeping. At first, we thought this was just a phase but we became worried when after over a year he showed no interest in moving out or improving his life at all.

Beginning To Look For Help

Eventually, my wife and I realized that our son was never going to become independent without a push from us. We considered just kicking him out but were worried that he wouldn't be able to support himself and find a place to live. This led us to consider therapeutic options that could give him the motivation he needed to make the changes himself. After looking through several options, we finally settled on At The Crossroads and set our son their in 2011.

A Big Change Takes Place

When our son returned home from treatment, we were shocked how much of a change he had undergone. With the help of At The Crossroads, he came home a totally different person. He was ambitious and wanted to work hard to change his life. He quickly got a full time job and moved into his own place without any assistance from us.
