American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The Mission of American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry: Working to promote the health and development of children and adolescents by providing education, advocacy, and research for those mental health professionals who provide services for children and their families.

The mission of AACAP is to promote the healthy development of children, adolescents, and families through advocacy, education, and research, and to meet the professional needs of child and adolescent psychiatrists throughout their careers. For 60 years the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has a history of working to improve transparency.

At every level, they work to ensure that all children and adolescents living with mental illnesses receive treatment of the highest caliber. Parenting a child with a mental illness can be incredibly difficult and sometimes frustrating. Families obtaining treatment for children with mental illnesses should be applauded. Comprehensive treatment, tailored for the individual child, is essential for best outcomes. Children’s mental illnesses are real, common, and treatable. They encourage families to advocate for their children and demand treatment of the highest quality.
