Reactive Attachment Disorder in Teenagers and Young Adults

By

Reactive attachment disorder in teenagers and young adults is a very common issue that numerous teens and young adults are being faced with with. Although this disorder is very common among young men and women that were once adopted, there are many people today that are completely unaware of Reactive Attachment Disorders (RAD), as well as the obstacles that are faced as a result of the disorder. For parents of teens and young adults that struggle with this disorder, it is all too familiar and miserable to live with. If you are a parent of a teen or young adult that is struggling with this disorder at the present time, Therapy Insider would like to help.

What exactly is Reactive Attachment Disorder?

For those who lack knowledge on this particular disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder is a common condition found in children that have been exposed to neglect and abuse. Children that suffer from this terrible disorder have a difficult time trusting and establishing relationships with anyone. Parents sometimes adopt children that suffer from RAD. Often times, these parents will not know that children suffer from this disorder so they don't know that they need treatment for their adopted child.

If RAD goes untreated, it will most certainly carry on well into adulthood. This happens to many teenagers and young adults as a result of their adopted parents being completely oblivious to their condition so therefore, the help necessary for their child suffering with RAD is not sought after. Fortunately for teenagers and young adults struggling with RAD, it is treatable. There is hope for these young men and women that are living a very isolated and unsociable lifestyle.
