Learning Disorders in Troubled Teens and Troubled Young Adults

By

It use to be that when a troubled teen or troubled young adult performed poorly in school the cause was associated to either a lack of ability or to laziness. While both are possible factors for poor performance, it is becoming progressively apparent that troubled teen and troubled young adult learning disorders are the fundamental cause of poor school performance.

Frustration with a learning disorder may cause troubled teenagers and troubled young adults to lash out in destructive ways. They may become unsociable and withdraw themselves from friends and family. They may even become aggressive and violent. It is important to be able to identify the potential warning signs of learning disorders in troubled teens and troubled young adults and to have a professional examination done in order to diagnose the specific issue. Once the learning disorder has been identified, techniques can be established to help the troubled teenager or troubled young adult counterbalance their disorder.

Common warning signs of learning disorders in troubled teens and troubled young adults include short attention spans, poor memory, difficultly following directions, poor reading and/or writing ability, eye-hand coordination problems, and disorganization and other sensory problems. Other essential qualities of troubled teens and troubled young adults with learning disorders consist of inappropriately responding in many instances, saying one thing but meaning another, being easily distracted, being anxious and uneasy, being reckless, being difficult to discipline, and difficulty adapting to change.
