Discipline boot camps for troubled teens are often advertised as a viable option for parents that are currently struggling to raise their troubled son or daughter. This however, is very misleading. The reality is that discipline boot camps for troubled teens are often used as an alternative to jail time by teens that are facing serious criminal charges. As you probably understand, this is not the category that most troubled teens fall under. Moreover, discipline boot camps for troubled teens should not be considered by a parent unless their troubled child is facing criminal charges.
Parents that send their troubled teen to a discipline boot camp for troubled teens fail to understand that these types of programs for troubled teens are not therapeutic facilities. Troubled teens need therapeutic intervention in order to grow and emotionally mature. This type of therapeutic treatment is not only neglected at a boot camp, it's non-existent.
Troubled teens do not respond to punishment, screaming and what many would consider child abuse. These tactics may work at first but may actually cause more problems further down the road. Problems that may include; less trust between parents and the teen, disdain for authority figures and lack of respect towards anyone that may be willing to help with issues they may be struggling with.
Most troubled teen specialists recommend facilities such as therapeutic boarding schools, wilderness therapy, residential treatment centers and group homes to therapeutically address the various issues troubled teens may have. These programs are widely accepted and preferred over ineffective behavioral modification programs such as discipline boot camps for troubled teens.
