Bipolar disorder is experienced as intense emotional states. Those with bipolar disorder experience extreme mood swings from joyful and overexcited to mania and depression. Those struggling with bipolar disorder often struggle with feelings of irritability or explosive behavior.
Signs of Bipolar Disorder
Changes are extreme and may be seen in energy levels, sleeping behaviors and activity. Bipolar Disorder may be identified when a person experiences multiple manic or depressive states for much of the day and nearly every day lasting for one week or more. These states may be so extreme that normal functioning is not possible.
Symptoms of bipolar disorder
Mania or manic episodes may be experienced as feeling high, extremely happy, or outgoing. This may also be seen in mood extremes, irritable, and agitation. Depression episodes of long periods of worry loss of interest in preferred activates, like sports, dancing, and sex.
Behavior changes are also seen in extremes
Talking fast and swinging from one thought to another
Experiencing an inability to stay focused, and being distracted
Feelings of restless and little need for sleep
Unrealistic expectations of self, impulsive, seen as high-risk behaviors.
Feelings of being exhausted or slow
Inability to concentrated and make decisions
Feelings of restlessness and irritability
Change in sleep and eating habits
Suicidal thoughts
