Behavior Modification for Children

By

Utilizing behavior modification for children, especially your child, has its advantages. Whether you are helping your child learn better manners, studying skills, or assisting them with a medical condition; helping your child takes patience and empathy. When helping children to moderate their poor behaviors, you must focus, specifically, on the behavior and not the child or their self-esteem. This way you are able to help your child without making them feel inadequate.

How to Moderat your Childs Behavior

1. Shape and form the behaviors - Children look up to their peers whether we believe it or not. However, to successfully achieve behavior modification for children, you must be willing to model their behavior; the way you would like to see it. The easiest way to accomplish this is to be the example. When your child knows you're upset, they think it's okay to act the same. When you punish them, they don't understand. So, be the example you want your child to be.

2. Establish expectations - In order to better your childs poor behavior you need to take the time to correct and explain it to them. Children need to understand the consequences of certain actions, whether good or bad.

3. Balance discipline & praise - In the midst of scolding our children for not doing what is right or appropriate, we forget to praise their good behaviors. Behavior modification for children can only be successful when balance of good and bad are in the mindset of your child.

4. Respond immediately - Moderating your childs behavior, good and poor, can be defeating. But, you will see better results if you are swift to respond to their behaviors. Whether it be through discipline or praise, act quickly, and your child will better understand your expectations as a parent.
