Abusive Family Relationships

When your teenager is exposed to an abusive family relationship, they become emotionally distraught and physically weak. Keeping your child safe from these situations is important and should not be neglected. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1 in 5 teens will admit to being physically, emotionally, and/or even sexually abused by a family member.

Warning Signs Teens are Being Abused

Even the strongest of families suffer from emotional loss, but others are not so lucky. If you are concerned that abusive family relationships are taking part in your home, look for these warning signs first:

  • Your teen finds pleasure in physically harming animals or punching inatimate objects rather than people.
  • They insessantly ask about guns and collect knives or other blunt/sharp instruments.
  • Emotions are on over drive. When they are angry, they become enraged and vengeful.
  • Your teen begins to show the appearance of no vulnerability. In others words, they may not feel above threatening or shoving others.
  • Not only will they take control of their life, they will attempt to control the lives of sibling, peers, and parents.

What can be done about Abusive Family Relationships?

Remember to not overwhelm yourself with pride. Support within relatives can only last for so long until your problems become their problems. This will cause depression and added stress until your immediately family is drained. Do not delay in getting the help your family needs and remember that it is your choice to make your life peaceful again.
