What is the Difference Between Wilderness Therapy and Regular Therapy

Besides the obvious, what are the differences between regular therapy and wilderness therapy?  Both are capable of meeting therapeutic needs.  Both serve a wide variety of issues.  And both have proven results.  So what truly differentiates the two types, and why should you choose one over the other?

Regular therapy is much more accommodating for scheduling purposes.  Meeting once a week or so, this allows you to maintain your life as it is.  There are no long term absences, and you can skip meetings here and there if they conflict with something else.  You have a single professional therapist who actively delves into your particular issues and assists you in resolving them.  Depending on the duration of your treatment the costs of regular therapy can certainly be more reasonable than a wilderness program.

So Which is Better, Wilderness Therapy or Regular Therapy?

Both types of therapy have excellent proven results.  Individuals respond to both in different ways.  For one person, individual therapy that doesn’t disrupt their life is what they need.  For another, traditional therapy simply can’t give them the focus that they require to overcome their issues.  Wilderness therapy might give an addict the chance they need to escape their world of drugs or alcohol, get clean, and return better equipped to survive without their addiction.  Choosing the one that is right for the individual is what truly defines which is better.
