Drug abuse is a major issue in the lives of troubled teen boys. Many teenagers these days abuse pharmaceutical prescription drugs due to the fact that they appear to be safer alternatives to street drugs like heroin. Opioids are the number one cause for overdose by pharmaceutical medications, with benzodiazepines and depressants at a respective second and third. Lava Heights Academy is a residential treatment center that is very beneficial in helping troubled teens deal with drug abuse problems. .

The Danger of Pharmaceuticals

Many teenagers will experiment with drug abuse in adolescence, and parents should be aware of what troubled teens have access to. For too long pharmaceutical drugs have been perceived as less of a threat to users. Prescription drugs can be even more dangerous to troubled teens. Some adolescents may justify taking pharmaceuticals to get high because it's "just a pill, it's not like I'm injecting heroin". What troubled adolescents don't realize is that the potency of prescription medications can be even higher compared to street drugs like heroin.

Parents need to be proactive in the lives of their students, especially if their adolescent/adolescents have had a history of drug abuse or negative behaviors. Every year it becomes easier and easier to acquire prescription drugs. There are many methods of therapy available for troubled teens in need of help with overcoming drug abuse, but the best sort of therapy is taking the right sort of preventative measures in the home. Keep track of what your kids are doing, and educate them on the danger of prescription drugs.
