The Road to Hell: Getting Past Good Intentions and Offering Help That Works to Your Troubled Teen

Unfortunately, good intentions are not always enough to make a difference in this world. This is particularly true of seeking assistance for troubled teens. To really bring about a change, you must find a program that has the right treatment methods. Helping young people overcome the issues they struggle with is a difficult process and requires highly trained and dedicated professionals.

My Teen Put My Family Through Hell

For years, my family went through hell as we sought to deal with the problems my son was experiencing. As soon as we had addressed one issue it seemed like another one immediately arose, leading to anger and frustration. It started with poor grades and fights at school, but before long he had gotten involved with drugs and alcohol. The strain of dealing with these problems quickly began to cause problems between me and my wife. We were both so desperate to help our son, that we failed to set aside time for each other and started fighting much more than we used to. In addition to the problems between me and my wife, our daughter and younger boy began to act out as all of our attention had been focused on their brother. Throughout this time, we tried to address our son's issues in many different ways, but nothing seemed to reach him. Finally, we decided that the only option we had left was to send him away to a long-term treatment program.

This was a difficult decision, but ended up being successful in helping him change. Unfortunately, the strain that this situation had caused on my marriage ended up causing my wife and I to divorce. Ever since this occurred, I have sought to educate other families about the importance of seeking our professional assistance as quickly as possible for their children.
