Mom Jumps Out Of Burning-Building To Protect Her Child

Christina Simoes may have permanently crippled herself when she jumped out of a window last Wednesday, but she has no regrets. A fire had broken out in her apartment building, leaving Simoes and her infant son trapped. She quickly realized that while she might be able to escape, it would be impossible to get her son out of the apartment safely. Upon coming to this realization, she took it upon herself to act.

"I grabbed my son and I held him as tight as I could to my chest and I gave him a kiss and a hug, and I told him I loved him and I jumped out the window". This simple description of her actions downplays the huge risk that Simoes was going through when she chose to put her son's safety above her own. Despite this, she never hesitated to do what was necessary to save her son.

The Power Of Self-Sacrifice And Love

The fall from the burning building did end up causing Simoes several serious injuries. On landing, she broke her back and both of her legs, forcing her to crawl with her son away from the burning building. On top of this, her doctors have told her that she may never walk again due to the nerve damage she sustained. This would be devastating news for anyone and it would be completely understandable if Simoes was upset about how this injury will change her life, but she isn't upset. In all of her statements since her injury, she has simply expressed her gratitude that her son wasn't hurt (he received only a small bump on the head during the incident). This willingness to overlook her own injuries and simply be grateful for her son's health is the perfect example of selfless love and has inspired people around the country. In just the past few days, people have donated over $14,000 dollars to the family to help them pay for medical bills and get back on their feet.
