Lost Your Job? Understanding These Key Factors Will Help You Become A More Eligible Candidate

There is a lot of uncertainty in the world today. The United States job front, for example, has sparked many political debates about the economy and job creation after the economic crash in 2008.

There is no doubt that things are looking much better than they were even two years ago, but it is very uncommon to see someone who has had the same career for even 10 years these days. Understanding what employers are looking for in a potential hiring candidate will help you gain the right skills to not only boost your career, but it will also help you be a better person in your personal life as well.

1. Be Passionate About Your Work

One of the most common questions in a job interview is “What gave you an interest in working in this field?” Well, depending on where you are in life the answer just might be “well i’ve been unemployed for 6 months so i’m a little tired of being broke and am willing to do anything.” But that is not the answer they’re looking for. Instead, tie in things that you really truly enjoy about life and the opportunity to learn new things from this experience.

2. Have A Solid Work Ethic

If you realize you’re on the way out the door at your current job (whether that’s due to lay offs, quitting, or whatever) don’t throw in the towel and stop doing your best work. Showing up every day and leaving it all on the field will only give people good things to say about you.

3. Be Resilient

In anything you do in life, you’re going to make mistakes. That’s just inevitable. But how you react to and overcome those mistakes is key in improving yourself. Be willing to say “I made a mistake” or “That was my fault, what can I do to improve?” Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

4. Be Positive

Being a positive person will do more for you than just about anything else. Nobody wants to be around a negative person. Having a positive mindset will help you have a clear focus on what you’re actually able to do versus what is impeding you from reaching your goals and dreams.

5. Keep Your Promises

When you agree to something, you better do it. It doesn’t matter if it’s an employer, a family member, or a friend, keeping promises you make will make you a more trustworthy person. Looking at it from an employment perspective: if you say to a potential employer that you promise to do a job, again, you better do it.
