I Am Beginning to Suspect That I Dont Know My Son

It is natural for teens to change their attitudes and behavior during adolescence, because they are growing to learn more about themselves and become who they are, but it can become a negative thing when parents begin to suspect that they don't know their son. Some teens change for the worse, becoming more troublesome, rebellious, disrespectful, etc. This is usually when parents start to become concerned, because if their child was previously kind, trustworthy, and well-behaved, it can be difficult to see this transformation take place.

Signs Your Son is Changing For the Worse

There are a few behaviors that parents should pick up on that indicate their child is changing for the worse. Has your teenager started hanging out with a new group of friends then he used to? This can be a bad sign, because when adolescents suddenly shift friend groups and stops hanging out with their old ones, it could be because they have started spending time with a crowd who is taking part in bad behavior, like alcohol or drug abuse.

Has your teen been performing worse in school and caring less about grades? He could potentially be skipping class or neglecting homework. Does your child act sad or distant? It is possible that he is working through an issue like depression. When these kinds of things happen with teenagers, parents often start to feel that they don't even recognize their child because they're acting so differently from how they used to. Professional assistance at the right kind of program can set them on track and help them return to the person they used to be.
