How Is Technology Developing to Aid Troubled Teens?

In the recent years, technology has hit a point where it is developing at an exponentially faster pace. This can mean many different things. As time goes on, more and more teenagers are going to have more and more access to technology, for better or for worse. Apps on smartphones and social networking can work towards better education and a better sense of community.

Troubled Teens and Developing Technology

At times, developing technology can cause somewhat of a generational disconnect between parents and their troubled teens. This can be difficult to overcome, but in this day and age, parents need to realize that the potential that technology has to help troubled teens and adolescents in general is significant. Because most teenagers have access to smartphones, more and more apps are coming out that can aid in learning and memorization. Parents should be continuously aware of what their teenagers are doing on the Internet, but these tools are here to ultimately be helpful.

Social media websites like Facebook are able to provide troubled teens a great sense of community. In the educational realm, the ability to access limitless information has the potential to get students interested in subjects and ideas that they wouldn't normally be interested in. Wikipedia, for example, provides a place where teenagers can learn skills that they would need later in college. Because Wikipedia articles are required to cite sources, teenagers could, while still in high school, learn the skills to help them sift through information and learn how to find sources that are credible.
