Finding Hope In A Failed Execution

Your friend asks you for a ride to his cousins house. You're hesitant to go because it's in a bad neighborhood, but you figure it's a harmless request. Once you get there, your friend disappears for a minute before returning with a shotgun he starts firing at you. This might sound like a bad dream, but it's exactly what happened to a Detroit teenager named Ross Capicchioni. A seemingly innocent request for a ride turned into a failed execution attempt by someone he considered a friend. The story is shocking and disturbing, especially hearing it right from the victim's mouth in the video below, but it also reveals the strength it takes to move on from an attack like this. What struck me most when watching this video was Ross's lack of anger. As he described the brutal attack, didn't seem upset about his friend betraying and attempting to murder him, he just seemed happy to be alive. He wasn't willing to let the emotions attached to this incident consume him. If there is one thing you take away from this video it should be this. Everyone encounters traumatic and life-changing moments, though few are as extreme as what Ross experienced, and how we react to them defines our lives.
