Do Parents Of Teen Boys Or Girls Have It Harder?

If you've ever dealt with a teenager, then you know they can be difficult whether they are boys or girls. Both boys and girls have unique challenges that their parents will struggle to deal with, but which is more difficult? This is a list of the three hardest things about raising a teen of each gender. For those of you who are raising teenage boys and girls at the same time, our condolences.

3 Hardest Parts Of Raising A Teen Girl

1 - Peer pressure

Teen girls are generally more susceptible to being influenced by the opinions of their peers. It can be difficult for parents to watch their daughter try to change just to fit in at school. Though boys can fall under the influence of peer pressure, it is generally not as important to them.

2 - Self-esteem

Many teen girl will struggle with self-esteem. This stands in contrast to your average teenage boy who thinks he is God's gift to Earth. Neither of these beliefs are good, but it is harder for parents to try to build up their child's self-esteem rather than just wait for an inflated sense of self-worth go down.

3 - Discipline

For many parents, it can be harder to lay down the law when their daughter messes up. Unfortunately, this is an important part of the parenting process and should not be neglected.

3 Hardest Parts Of Raising A Teen Boy

1 - Communication

If you talk to a teenage girl, you're probably going to get more information about her day than you wanted. Talking to a teen boy, you'll have the exact opposite experience. Parents of boys end up being forced to treat their son's return home from school like a police interrogation if they want any information at all.

2 - Personal Hygiene

If you have a teenage son, you need to accept that there is going to be a questionable smell coming from his room. Where girls generally try to at least keep themselves clean, teenage boys seem to delight in being as gross as possible much of the time. This can be tough for parents with sensitive stomachs.

3 - Contributing to the house

Getting a teenage boy to take the time to pick up after himself can be a battle. Whether it's clothes on the floor, dirty dishes spread throughout the house, or just taking out the trash, you're probably going to have to ask more than once. Where girls often want to help out with these household chores, boys generally run the other way.
