If you have a teen who has been struggling in school, then you might want to consider the possibility that they are struggling with a learning disorder. These often go undiagnosed and can make success in school nearly impossible. This list is meant to help parents have a better idea of what their son or daughter might be struggling with.

1 - Dyslexia

Those with dyslexia will struggle with both the ability to read and the ability to comprehend what they have read. This can be a huge barrier to achieving any kind of success in school and almost always requires the help to overcome. There are a number of different treatments that have proven effective in helping teens struggling with dyslexia to improve their reading skills.

2 - ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a problem that impacts a huge number of teens and has been diagnosed with increasing frequency in recent years. The symptoms of this disorder are generally centered around an inability to sit still for long periods of time and trouble focusing. With medication, these symptoms generally improve greatly.

3 - Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia is similar to dyslexia in many ways, just affecting math skills instead of reading. Those who deal with this disorder will have trouble with all aspects of math and number manipulation in general. Without help, even basic arithmetic can prove impossible for those who struggle with dyscalculia. If you notice your teen is struggling with math and can't seem to do even basic addition and subtraction, then it is possible they are dealing with dyscalculia.

4 - Dysgraphia

This is a learning disorder that impacts a person's ability to both write legibly and using coherent thoughts. This can be particularly difficult for teens, as the ability to write is necessary in almost every school subject. Some individuals who struggle with this issue are able to use computers to help compensate, but in many situations the difficulty in writing coherently is still a serious barrier to success in school.

5 - Aphasia

This is the name for a broad group of problems that impact a person's speech. In some cases, a teen struggling with this could simply have difficulty pronouncing words correctly. In other cases, they may slur or stutter. In more extreme cases, a person can lose the ability to speak at all.
