10 Signs That Your Use Of Alcohol Has Reached The Point Of Addiction

Often, alcoholics will be in denial about how serious their addiction is. These signs are intended to give you a clear idea of when your drinking has reached the point of addiction.

1 - Your drinking is damaging your relationships - If you find yourself pushing your loved ones away due to your drinking or just having a difficult time maintaining your relationships, then you might have a serious problem with alcohol.

2 - You feel isolated by your drinking - Alcoholics will often start to isolate themselves when their family or friends try to stop their drinking. If you feel yourself becoming isolated, you might have a serious problem.

3 - Your career is being damaged - Drinking socially isn't necessarily harmful, but when it start to interfere with your career it is important to be able to stop.

4 - Your health is suffering - Drinking excessively can cause serious health issues, in particular liver damage. If you have been drinking to the point that this type of damage is occurring, it is important to stop before you do permanent harm.

5 - You get angry or violent when drinking - Those who drink to suppress their emotions may struggle with angry or violent feelings when drinking. This can make them a danger to themselves and others.

6 - You have to start and finish the day with a drink - If you wake up and need a drink to get through the day then feel the need to end the day with a drink, you may have developed a serious problem.

7 - You've lost a job - Drinking on the job is dangerous and will quickly result in getting fired. If you haven't been able to constrain your drinking to when you're off the job, then you are probably addicted to alcohol.

8 - You regularly black out when drinking - If you often black out when you consume alcohol, then your drinking in a dangerous and irresponsible way

9 - You've already tried quitting and failed - If you're addicted, you may have already tried quitting and failed. Alcoholics often tell themselves they can quit whenever they want but fail when they actually try.

10 - You feel like you wouldn't know what to do if you weren't drinking - Those who have become addicted to alcohol often feel like they would be lost without it. This makes taking the first step towards sobriety incredibly difficult for many people.
