About Ms. Carol Lynn Winters BS MS LCPC LPC CRC

Joy in life, inner peace, a purpose driven life and financial security are things most people strive for.  Sometimes we are temporarily knocked off the track by a crisis or an ongoing life situation that appears to be hopeless and unsolvable. These roadblocks, however, can be overcome by will, support, and guidance in using the right tools necessary to change our attitudes and life circumstances so that life works for us once again rather than against us.

I have worked over 30 years in the mental health and rehabilitation fields.  I am a trained mental health diagnostician and have worked many years on a team with psychiatrists, psychologists and neuropsychologists. Other settings that I have worked have been in acute physical rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes and for the State of Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.  I have had extensive training in the areas of stress and pain management and in relaxation techniques.

I also give counsel on how to communicate more effectively.  I work with couples or persons who are having difficulty on the job, to improve their communication abilities.  I educate people on how to "fight fairly", so to speak.

Sometimes a person seeks out a counselor as a third party to obtain an unbiased opinion on a life transition, a relocation or a relationship issue. I am here to assist people sort things through and come to their own well thought out decisions.

I try to provide short term, solution focused counsel to life's pressing issues and not long term psychoanalytic therapy.

I am pragmatic in my approach and wellness oriented.  For example, research has shown that Panic Attacks and Anxiety are often due to lack of Vtamins D and B.  Lack of exercise is also bad for the body and the mind.  Most cases of depression are related to one's life views or positions rather than being chemical in nature.  In other words, what is your inner dialogue, what are you telling yourself? Cognitive behavioral therapy can address these issues.  It is goal oriented, self imposed and successful in most cases.
